Creative Writing Out with a Bang Essay - 642 Words

Julie’s dreams never worked out. She had dreams of going to college, but that fell through. No money. Was it her fault that the economy took a nose dive and no one wanted to give her a scholarship? Julie was going to graduate in the top half of her class. But, then she’d missed one final exam. Did she ask to get the flu or to forget the date of the makeup exam? Work for living, meet the right people, and take advantage of your opportunities. How she hated the advice she got from her parents. Well, this was where Julie drew the line. This was where she would set herself apart from the crowd. No more Loser for Julie. She was going to be the best Executive Assistant in the world. Julie blew her blonde bangs out of her eyes, staring at the disheveled man before her. With his sparse, wiry hair bushed out from the sides of his head, he reminded her of an orangutan. He had on a starched white shirt with a small blood spot on the collar where he’d nicked himself, and his sleeves were pushed up to reveal hairy arms and thick beefy hands. â€Å"Where did you put those files for the Phelps thing?† Mr. Goepfrisch asked, sitting behind his desk with a three inch stack of papers upright in his lap. He rifled through them like he was looking for B-9 on a stack of bingo cards. His suit jacket was hung loosely over the back of the leather chair, and as he flipped through the papers, rocking his chair, the motion swung the jacket sleeves back and forth on the carpet behind him, repeating a click, click, swish. On the front corner of the desk, on top of a six inch stack of papers, were the empty folders she’d brought him yesterday. It would have taken two minutes to file them right. He had to do everything himself. â€Å"The Phelps Group will be here tomorrow,† Julie said. â€Å"Maybe I could help straighten up a bit?† Julie looked around the office, stacks of papers and magazines were on every surface, her eyes narrowed under perfectly arched brows.
